Cool

Yesterday India won the 2nd T20 match against Sr Lanka. Superb performance by Yuvaraj propelled India to a comfortable win. This was achieved even after 5 to 6 dropped chances by Indian players.
However Dhoni, the wicket keeper captain, was very cool, not at all showing any emotions. I was wondering how this is possible. I am reminded of how I , as the captain of our office team, couldn't control my temper at the sight some poor fielding or catching,

When a player drops a sitter of a catch any normal person will get irritated. but Dhoni hides his emotions, doesn't utter a word of disapproval. Is this good? People say, one has to express his emotions or else the bent up emotions will affect your health. To be very cool is not normal.
Players have to be pulled up for their poor showing .

Polygamy

I read an article / news in the Hindu about 10 days back and was itching to share my thoughts.

A High school teacher was dissmissed from his post for marrying a second time, when the first one is alive. This is violation of rules under the act, the Education department said. Polygammy is not allowed. Infact he married with the consent of the first wife for getting a male child, as the first one could not give him a male child and cant bear any further. Even if there is a consent of first wife he was dissmissed from duty as per rules.

Very funny,. The govt acts likes this when the Chief Minister of the Government officially has two wifes. One Manaivi and other Thunaivi.

I leave the matter to All to judge.

Polls

I read a very interesting article today in Times of India. This is definitely thought provoking, as we are saying about giving back to our society.

" Mr. Sararath Babu, an IIM Ahmedabad graduate is contesting elections from Madippakkam for South Madras MP seat. He did his BE from BITS Pilani , worked for 2 to 3 years in a software company, Joined IIM Ahmadabad. He was offered a very nice job from MNC company which he did not accept. Started a Catering services company called, Food Kings Catering Services. Today it is a seven ( 7 ) crore company. His mom educated him and his siblings by selling iddlies door to door earlier. His interview has come in Times of India . I was really moved. He is just 30 years old."

I am sure he will lose the elections. Our voters are so naive, and he cant spend like big parties. I was very much touched by his hard wok, attitude, his commitment to do something back to society. Just I felt I should share this with all of you though U might have read it.

He talks to all voters thru e mail, etc.

Still there is hope for our country.

Inviting every ones comments. Those who can muster, please campaign for this GUY.

Thirumala visit

Usha and myself had been to Thiruppathi last week, from 10th to 12th March, to be precise.  I am visiting the place after more than 20 years and the place has changed very much. The only thing that hasn't changed is the crowd to see the Lord. ( for a few seconds)!!!!.

I do remember my last vivit with Gunasekaran there. The occasion was the POONAL ceremony for Iyer's son Shashank. I remember vividly the hospitality and the warmth with which I was welcomed. I had along chat with Iyer's Dad and also his brother.

I also remember Shashank leaving off his fond eating item after his upanayanam. I saw his grand father teaching him how to do "Sandyavandan". That day I also remembered how I taught my son how to do Sandhy, I even translated  them into English and gave him, as his 2nd language was Hindi.

Bias towards Cricket ??

Yesterday India bet Sri Lanka in the first ODI in Cricket. Government people say is biased towards cricket players. Padma awards are not given to Olympic Bronze Medal winners. Why??
No one can give a convincing answer. Now

I am reminded of the cricketing days we had at Cuddalore, especially after reading the comments of Girivasan and Iyer. I forgot .........., From day one of the starting of the cricket team I was the Captain of the team. (no.1??) Infact no one opted to and hence I was the defacto captain. Self appointed as I took the initiative and started the team.

I had to litrally fight with the then Factory Manager and GM, way back in 1988, to get the money sanctioned to buy kits (bat, ball, pads, glouse, u.guards, etc) for the team. somehow I manged to pool in a team of members who were really interested in the game but were not v.good players. I could convince the management that it will improve the relations between the engineers and workmen.

It really did wonders for the relationship. The cricket team was given a boost after Mr.PKK and Iyer joined us. Both even participated in the game. Iyer, from Bombay, the Mecca of cricket in India, was a very good bowler and Murthy was a hitter like David Boon. We had another cricketer Girivasan from Triplicane, which is a synonym to cricket in Chennai. I still remember,Giri used to come all the way from Chennai for the matches at Cuddalore. Such was the interest he had in the game.

We had very good players later on, like Saikrishnan, Venkatachalam, Ravikumar, Rajendran etc. I might have forgot some good guys name, excuse me for that. Actuall we are all very good players as we went usually directly for the matches without any practice earlier, but still could win some matches. We played lot of matches at cuddalore, Neyveli, Nellikkuppam, etc and had lots of Fun.

I got my career best haul of 8 wickets in the SIPCOT tournament.

Now, with my non my participation due to advanced age and retirement , the cricket team in Penta, also had a natural death.

The No 2.

Today Our Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh is recovering after the successful second bypass surgery. The Government has not officially designated anyone as the acting Prime Minister, although Mr.Pranab Mukherjee is holding fort and is doing the routine daily chores of the Prime Minister. Why? Because he is not favoured by the Top Management of the Party, due to his earlier utterances after Mrs.Indra Gandhi's death.

Mr.Gulzarilal Nanda ,though he was twice the acting Prim Minister, never became the Prime Minister. You remember Mr.Nedunchezhian? He was the Deputy Chief Minister under Karunanidhi and under MGR. Never could become the chief Minister.

This brings to my mind some analogy. (in comparison to me, though retired now)

During my tenure of about 20 years in Penta, Cuddalore I have seen six Factory Managers/Plant Managers. In almost most of the cases I have taken care of the Pant for about 4 to 5 months till the next Factory Manager takes over. Which means I have always been the No 2.

Why? What is the point now? Is this a self analysis? Is it going to bring you any good? I am asking these questions myself. May be this is only to pour my heart out, I console myself. During my profession we have done the so called SWOT analysis, many times. I have tried to reduce the weaknesses and harness the strengths. Still the No 2 spot was always mine.

Have you seen the Tamil Movie "Mannan" of superstar Rajini? There he explains how the No2 is bigger than the No1. But in reality what? People clamour for the
No1 spot. Raffa has pushed Federer to No2 and etc.

They say in HR , is this Murphy's Law?, that everyone rises up to the level of their incompetence. May be True.

Though I did my PG in Chemical Engineering sometimes I do feel sometimes that I have been educated more. Actually I did my PG because I could get the stipend and did not get a job in time.

In any case I have now become a Plants Manager as I manage/attend to the plants I have at home.

whats in a title?

I have been thinking of creating a blog for long and is kindled more by iyer's blogspot. what title i should keep, that was the question which was pondering for long. Finally I had arrived at at my first name. yes,my initial T stands for Thinniam, which is a remote village in Lalgudi and nearer to Anbil. (heard of anbil Dharmalingam) There is nothing connected to us there now except our Temple, which we visit every year. The Subramanian Swamy Temple is very famous in Trichy District. But Thinniam is also notorious for the communal clashes. (search google - u can see).

Thats for the day, The day when Slum dog Millioanaire is nominated for Oscar award.
